Lecture

Week 5 Lecture

In Lecture 5, we delve into the important role that typography plays in shaping perception and organizing information.
Perception in typography:
We explored how different fonts, sizes, and styles affect readability and the overall user experience. It was stressed that both legibility and readability were essential for effective communication.
Hierarchical structure:
We discussed the importance of using typographic elements to create visual hierarchies. This helps direct the reader's attention by strategically using headings, subheadings, and body text.
Alignment and spacing:
The lecture highlights how effective alignment, spacing, and layout contribute to a clean, organized design. Particular emphasis is placed on the consistent application of grids and margins.

When I was designing my sketch, I tried a lot of designs, whether from the meaning of the word, or from the shape of the word to associate other things, but Mr. Vinod instructed me that my design was more like a Logo so it was less readable and we needed to make it "word" instead of "draw".

My final choice is this design, which is inspired by soft silk or cloth, and Mr. Vinod said the designer is interesting and readable.

During the design process, Mr. Vinod told me to pay attention to the design sense of the text, and the line thickness of the text can better show its inspiration, so I changed the letter line to different thickness.

When I was designing the brand accessories, I first chose the coaster throw pillow billboard and T-shirt, but later I got feedback that Mr. Vinod told me that the billboard could not be considered as the brand accessories, because it was not something we could use in our life, so I changed the accessory design and redesigned a sticker.

Feedback

Week 7
General feedback:
First of all, pay attention to the blog submission format, and when designing brand items, pay attention to the important impact of your logo on people.
Specific feedback:
It should be noted that the design you make is for your own brand, so it needs to be an item that you use, and can not use a billboard as a model for design.

Week 6
General feedback:
We need to influence people's decisions with a designer logo, which is one of the most important parts of your brand, and secondly, we need to have three colors when choosing color plates: dark, neutral, and bold bright.
Specific feedback:
The final choice was a silk-inspired typeface design that Mr. Vinod thought was more readable and interesting. After the guidance of Mr. Vinod, I changed the font lines to different thickness, so that it has a more design sense.

Week 5
General feedback:
Before designing, first determine your style. Secondly, the design must clearly convey the meaning of the word, and on this basis, the design can not be changed.
Specific feedback:
This art work must be words, not pictures, so its readability should be high, secondly, let people feel your style, and be able to understand the meaning of the words.

Reflection

In this study, I felt the fun of design and changed my English name into lines with a sense of design, which I think is a very cool thing. In this process, I not only increased my proficiency in AI software, but also increased my aesthetic taste. I learned how to adjust colors and typesetting to make the picture more harmonious. When designing accessories related to my brand, I find that it gives me a great sense of accomplishment, and when I give this item my brand name and my design, they become very interesting to me, which makes me excited.
In this process, I am very grateful to Mr. Vinod for his patient guidance. When my design is not perfect, he can always point out small problems, which often affect the overall design.

《DESIGNING DESIGN》

Written by renowned Japanese designer Kenya Hara, this book explores the core concepts and practices of brand design and visual communication. Through case studies and deep philosophical thinking, the book emphasizes that design is not only for formal beauty, but also for communication, cultural and brand value transmission.it emphasize that the role of design is to solve problems, not to simply decorate. The concept of "design is an intangible language" is put forward, and the design should be concise and true as the core to convey the cultural connotation of the brand.

1. Combination of brand and culture
Explore how to combine the brand's uniqueness and cultural context through design, such as Muji's design philosophy of "simplicity and nature", to integrate the brand's core values into products and visual expression.
It emphasizes the importance of the emotional connection between design and users, making the brand a symbol of a lifestyle.
2. Minimalist design philosophy
Through the concept of "white space" in traditional Japanese aesthetics, the book conveys how minimalism can enhance the sense of premium and recognition of brands.
The emphasis is on reducing design elements to highlight the core message of the brand.
3. Case analysis
A number of design examples (such as Muji's visual system) are provided to show how brands can build trust and connection with consumers through design language.
The practical application of logo design, font selection and color matching in brand construction is discussed.
4. Design and social responsibility
Designers should not only focus on the brand itself, but also consider the impact of design on society and the environment.
Promoting sustainability through brand design, such as reducing waste in packaging design.

The book has a 9.1 high score in China and was published in September 2010. This book is a summary of Kenya Hara's design philosophy and the evolution and development of his works. As the backbone of Japanese designers in the Mesozoic era, Kenya Hara's design embodies the essence of modern and contemporary Japanese design to some extent. He faces "everyday life" with a pair of eyes that ignore the rapid development and change of the external world, and with a modest but sharp gaze seeks out where design is needed and places himself precisely where his intentions can be brought to life. At a time when our daily lives are becoming more and more Mired in our own patterns, he is keenly aware of the signs and signs of design, and consciously challenges the unknown areas within it. His design works appear to be fresh and unconventional. With this attitude, he expands the vision and scope of design. In his experience, new horizons are constantly discovered and expanded.
