Task 3a: Innovation Packaging Design

Project information: collagen beverage packaging design

In this project, we worked with a team from the School of Biotechnology to complete the packaging design of a collagen drink. Our design team consists of three members, and through many communications and consultations, we have had an in-depth discussion on the product background and market needs. These discussions helped us to identify the core elements of the packaging design, so that we could design a packaging solution for the beverage that is consistent with its product positioning, but also environmentally friendly and modern.

Design process

Market Research: We conducted market research for berry collagen beverages, analyzing current packaging design trends and consumer preferences to ensure that our designs are both trendy and unique. At the same time, we refer to some excellent packaging cases in the market.

Material selection: In the material selection process, we follow the concept of environmental protection and use recyclable materials to ensure that the packaging is beautiful and sustainable.

Concept design and feedback: After the other team viewed our mind map, we determined the direction of the two beverage packaging and based on this, we drew a preliminary design sketch. Through further discussions with the team from the School of Biology, we optimized the design to better meet the functional needs and brand image positioning of the product.

The SBS students were responsible for determining all the information about the product including the brand name and variety, and the final product was GlowBerry collagen Kefir called "Procoloco".

Our team designed the packaging.

Phase 1 Design Draft

At the beginning, we decide to used the double-sided sticker design, which was pasted on the front and back of the bottle. This design has a certain sense of visual segmentation. Later we found that the font was not prominent enough and blended too much with the bottle background, affecting the readability of the information.

Phase 2

Then, we switched to a single-sided sticker design, wrapping the entire sticker around the bottle. Once the SBS students got their hands on the bottle, we determined the size and continued to make some adjustments to enhance the visual effect.

After the first online presentation, we had a meeting with the SBS students, and based on their comments, we changed the layout, logo and product information on the packaging.
Put the ingredient list alone on the body side and enlarge the font to make the content clearer.

Task 3b: Merchandise and promotion strategy

This project is a continuation of Project 2 and needs to be derivative. The product design should reflect the brand and packaging design in Project 2. We need to produce at least 6 products, including a final exhibition area.

Our product ideas are: Tote bags, gift bags, signboards, poster boards, paper cup holders, T-shirts, trade stands, exhibition areas (We also make stickers and badges, but Ms. Vitiyaa thinks these two derivatives are not suitable for our products)

We chose these products because they are closely related to our beverages:
1. Paper bag, which can be used as a bag for packing drinks.
2. Brand and poster board can be used as media for brand promotion.
3. Booth for comprehensive display of all derivatives.
4.takeaway holding, used to hold drinks.
5. T-shirts and Tote bags as product accessories.

Feedback

Week 6:
We had a preliminary understanding of this product according to the PPT and presentation of SBS students, and then we began to conceive and read a lot of references online.

Week 7:
Miss Vitiyaa guided us that our initial draft was well conceived, but the layout needed to be improved, and the most important message in the whole package must stand out from the rest, and we could keep the idea and continue to improve it.

Week 8:
Independent learning week

Week 9:
We need to further discuss the color scheme of the packaging. The current layout still needs to be improved, but the hand-drawn illustrations are good and can be retained. We can try different directions of design stickers for beverage design, horizontal or vertical. What matters is which SBS team prefers.
Then some derivative products need to be created.

Week 10:
The final packaging design and model have been determined.
Double header, and add a high contrast color as the background color to highlight the brand name. (We have some demo images.)
The layout that looks like a poster might have been better, but to make it easier for the SBS team to make it all use another design.
The final product will be presented to SBS students online next week.

Reflection

In the study of Task 3, we cooperated with students from SBS to complete a project, they were responsible for product development, and we were responsible for packaging design. This cooperation project benefited me a lot. As a student of design, I will often come into contact with such cooperation between Party A and Party B after graduation. In this cooperation, I realized my shortcomings in composition and aesthetic design, so I will see more and learn more to broaden my knowledge. Thank you very much for Ms. Vitiyaa's patient guidance in the task. When my design was inadequate, she guided us to give full play to our strengths, and patiently guided us to communicate with team members in our packaging design. In general, designing our own packaging is a very exciting thing, and we are very happy to have successfully completed this task.
